The time now is 3am in the morning. The whole of September is a black September month.
Bowie left us at 130am, 29th of September 2008. I was there for him till his last breathe and it really breaks my heart to see him taking his last breathe. Now I wish I didnt have to see him take his last breathe and I was glad I didnt see Bunny.
His death is very sudden for me. Just 2 days back, 27th of September, Bunny mummy left us and now Bowie. In a span of a month, 3 bunnies left us just like that.
Bowie was feeling alright in the afternoon when I fed him pellets. Although I did notice he wasnt at his usual active self for the past few days, I thought he might not be hungry. He would normally cheong for the pellets whenever I stand near the cage. And I also notice his hind legs werent as strong as before. I guess I put all my attention on Bunny for the past 2 months and have neglected the others. I should have known earlier.
We went to MIL house and came back. Hubby cleaned up the litter tray as usual and fed them veg. He told me few days back that Bowie has started to eat veg. For months, he refused to take his vegs and only ate pellets. I dont know what was wrong with him, but as long as he ate, I was happy. Perhaps his maloccusion made it difficult for him to chew the vegs and hay.
Then at 1115pm, I went to the kitchen to look at my bunnies and notice Bowie had fallen "asleep" in the veg bowl halfway! I thought he had passed on and called for hubby! I got a feeling that he wasnt right.
I picked him up, he was thin, unlike the last time when he was abit fatter. His lips were turning blue and he was very listless. I brought him to the shower to wash his feet and tail. Then I laid him on the floor mat to dry him up. He was still okay, but he wasnt willing to eat his pellets or water. As I groom him, he lay very still to let me groom him. This was not his usual self! I even managed to trim his nails for him quietly.
As rie was fussing, I had to put her to bed at 1130pm before I accompanied Bowie. I dont know why but I just wanted to accompany Bowie that night and was all prepared to stay up if I had to.
I made the right choice.
I stayed with him, groom him, pet him and talked to him. He became weaker and wasnt able to balance. As I held him in my palm, he just kept still. Even when I lay him lying down, he kept still too. His breathing was getting weaker, his lips turning blue.
I started to cry. I know he is leaving soon. How long more can he live on, I dont know. I dint know how to comfort him to make him less painful. I just sat there and cry and cry. He was still able to stand up on his own, then slowly his legs weaken and I had to lay him down. As I tried to help him stand up again, he kept falling down weakly.
And when he started to gaspe for air, I cried harder. I called for hubby to come out to give me support. He didnt help much and kept on saying "he's dying he's dying". I got so fed up and told him to shut up. I kept on crying on and on. I thought Bowie had left us, but he started breathing again. I spoke to him, I told him that his mummy was waiting for him over the other side of the rainbow bride. I told him his mummy would be there for him and he can rejoin his mummy very soon. I told him not to be afraid coz mummy is there. I told him to go join mummy so that he would be happy with her and not be alone.
He listened. And he started opening and closing his mouth, gasping for air, and then he was still. He left us at 130am. I cried even harder and told hubby Bowie has left us. Hubby was sitting at the living room all the while and he weep. He kept asking me not to cry anymore. I was so sad, I kept crying. How can I not be sad to lose 2 rabbits in the span of 2 days and 3 rabbits in a span of 1 month????
Hubby said not to keep anymore pets, it is so heartbreaking when they leave us and especially when all of them are around this age of old age.
I'm now left with Junior and Minty. I brought Minty out to say goodbye to Bowie. She kissed Bowie on the lips goodbye. Now she is all alone. I cant put her together with Junior unless she learns to litter train, otherwise Junior would get all dirty.
We called for the pet undertaker and they arrived at 230am. I had initially requested for Bunny's ashes to be returned with the urn at $220. Then I thought, where would I display 4 urns in future when my bunnies leave me? How many years would I keep the urn with me? I discussed with hubby and we decided to just get back their ashes and perhaps scatter it around Mian Mian where we buried him behind our house, so that they can all be together.
The lady was nice to negotiate and we agreed on $360 for 2 rabbits with ashes returned.
I wasnt in the mood to do anything. I showered and here I am writing my blog. I doubt I can go to sleep peacefully.
I didnt sleep well last night, I kept thinking of Bunny and I cried in bed. I miss her and now I miss Bowie. I wish Mian Mian, Bunny and Bowie are now happy over the other side of the rainbow bridge.
